Pick a class from the Class selector at the top right — it stays selected as you move between tabs.
In the Grade Book, type directly into a cell. Enter moves down to the next student, Tab moves across to the next assignment, and the arrow keys move in any direction.
A cell accepts more than a number: 85% is scored as a percentage of the assignment's points, 17/20 is scaled to them, M marks the work missing, and E excuses it. Clearing a cell puts the work back to ungraded.
Changes save about a second after you stop typing. The status line tells you when they've saved, and it won't let you leave the page with unsaved scores.
Ungraded work is not counted as a zero — it's left out until you grade it. Work marked missing does count as a zero.
Excused work is removed from that student's total, so it neither helps nor hurts them.
Extra credit adds points earned without adding to the points possible.
With weighted categories, each category is averaged on its own and then combined by weight. Categories with no graded work yet are dropped and the remaining weights are scaled up, so an empty Final Exam category doesn't drag everyone down in September.
Drop-lowest discards the lowest percentage scores in a category, not the lowest raw point totals.
Take Attendance shows the roster for one day. Click a code button next to each student, or use Mark all present and then change the exceptions.
Codes are set up per school under Setup → Attendance Codes. Retiring a code hides it from this screen but keeps historical records intact.
Attendance can't be recorded for a future date, or for a date outside the school year.
Checklists track skills or standards that a percentage doesn't capture well. Each item is marked Not yet, Progressing, Proficient or Mastered.
Click a cell to advance it through the levels, or use the Set all column to mark a whole row at once.
A checklist is private until you tick 'Visible to students and families'.
Posting takes a snapshot of each student's current average as their grade for that period. Later score corrections do not change a posted grade — re-post if you want it updated.
Leave the override blank to post the calculated average. Enter a percentage to replace it, which is what you'd do for an incomplete or a negotiated grade.
Only posted grades appear on a student's report card in the portal.
Students and their guardians sign in at the same address and see the student's courses, assignment-level detail, attendance and posted report card grades.
Only assignments you've marked visible appear there, so you can grade privately and release scores when you're ready.
Guardians see only the students they're linked to, and an administrator can revoke a guardian's access per student without deleting the family link.
Administrators create staff, student and guardian accounts. Each new account gets a one-time password that's shown once — hand it over directly.
Everyone is required to choose their own password the first time they sign in.
There's no self-service password reset yet. An administrator resets a password from Setup → Staff, or from the student's page, which also signs that person out everywhere.
Scholaris holds student education records. Access is restricted by role: teachers see only the students on their own rosters, guardians see only the students they are linked to, and administrators see their own district.
Every score change, assignment change, password reset and access change is recorded in the activity log with who did it and when. Administrators can review it under Setup → Activity Log.
Pages that show student data are sent with no-store cache headers so they aren't retained by shared browsers or proxies.
For help with your account or a grade you think is wrong, contact your school office first — they can reset passwords and correct records.
